For all purposes of my life I am not interested in finding out anything about the sportsperson, artist or politician or anyone who I haven't had an opportunity of having a face to face or online conversation with. If I do get interested, it will be about their work and I would pour over the artwork, the movies, books or stuff that they have written.. but I like to leave their personal lives alone. I think they deserve it since they like me, are human. So it completely baffles me when people pour over magazines to read about what the MEDIA reports regarding the respective Icons. I like Biographies, preferably autobiographies cause that gives an inside of the person, not the inside as viewed by another person. But I take everything I read with a Large Grain of salt, cause Memories can be False.
Tiger Woods was on the news for crashing his SUV. Supposedly he admitted it was his mistake... To me the case is closed. He was in an accident(presumably, no one wants to crash their SUV on purpose no matter how much money they have), he spoke to the police, admitted it was his mistake, the insurance will probably take care of it. Done, no one need interfere with it anymore.
But no, the hungry wolves in the media had to find the gossip in the situation. He was meeting a girl, presumably having an affair and was in an accident causing embarrassment to his family.. Now there's a lot written in the media.. what caught my attention was this column's title.
Whats with the title - "Do you believe Him?" Why is that even a question.. why would you go believing someone you haven't met or spoken face to face with or had any kind of opportunity to make your own assessment of? Hes not a representative of the Government I voted(ironically they lie to us all the time) for or in any manner makes decisions in my life.
Quote on that article- "Take the worst-case scenario: He cheated on his old lady, got busted, wrecked the car. Doesn't mean he's beyond redemption. Doesn't even mean he's a bad guy. But, really now, do you believe him? Do you know anyone who does? That's the issue, not privacy. Tiger Woods isn't J.D. Salinger. He's the personification of corporate interests: the guy who wants you to buy his soft drink, his haberdashery, his shoes and his golf clubs. He's selling you and your kids an image, and consumers are entitled to know how true or counterfeit that image is. "
How is buying all of this related to his alleged affair and crashed car? Am I being Naive, or missing something here. There are people selling stuff every day, clothes they designed or the jewelery or the food the farmer grew(far more important than Tiger Wood clothes if you ask me) and I don't think the buyer is thinking what kind of a person the designer/farmer is to be buying his/her clothes/food. Why are we so smitten by Icons, Images and Brandnames ?
Another quote - "I understand that people might not care if he's messing around or incoherently cracking up his Escalade. In all likelihood, they do care, but not enough to stop buying his paraphernalia. Still, in the interest of full disclosure, they're entitled to know. Let the market decide. Truth in advertising is a bitch. But in this age of public confession, why should Tiger Woods be exempt from the rules?"
So what is the author peeved over? that he didnt get the inside confession? that he didnt get to drool over all the juicy meaty secret that Tiger presumably has with respect to who he was meeting or what he was doing? or was he just jealous over the fact that heres someone who makes a hell a lot of money than he does, and therefore everything he does, should be scrutinized to its minutest details.. why doesnt he do that with the Politicians who decided to do what happened in Iraq, Afghanistan or Balkans ? Go to that war torn place and get the gossip or in this case the Truth.. Maybe, just maybe the people will listen and find ways to stop wars.
Seriously why are we the way we are.. Are we so lacking in everyday examples of being the best we can be that we have to look up to the images that everyone knows is CREATED(not Real) in the media of the sportsperson or corporate image? Do we need Tiger Woods to tell us what to eat, drink, wear and do for sport?
Completely Befuddled over the ruckus
Rashmi.

The media's profession is riddled with double speak, mind bending, illogical demands that you twist your thinking and doubt ... It's all about ratings and how much they can generate hate, bigotry and any destroy hero status that they can't buy. How he makes his royalties is because he is number one golfer in the world.. and no way can you say he cheats to get that. It is rewarded by letting companies use his name for the products he uses... What is so horrible about that? It is honest... and he uses a huge amount of his time and income to help children everywhere... but do we hear about that NO ... we hear evil reproductions of fabricated garbage... Befuddled ? I am just plain angry ... That sort of news coverage makes me sick ...
I am not so annoyed at the media as I am of the people reading them(that includes me). I think its sad that we'd rather buy into whats said by someone we never had an opportunity to get to know personally than use our heads about what is right or works for us.
It plants seeds of doubt about someone who has changed the world with his professional example... HIs private life is none of our business... it seems people are of a soap opera mindset .. they salivate over stuff like this... The media knows how to draw in the easy mark....
i agree...
i felt the same way when the media circus created a ruckus over Abhishek and Aishwarya's wedding. I was irritated at the way everyone talked about it like it was the event of the century. i just couldn't understand the need for people to pore over every single article and picture published about their wedding. they are human beings just like anyone else, they are prone to mistakes, they live the same emotions we do.
this sort of madness reminds me of the lines penned by Simon: and the people bowed and prayed to the neon gods they made...
i also wondered at the time, is this really the best that we can do with our time?
Oh I ask this everytime I see someone gushing over the fact that they stood in line to get the Newest book with the sign of the writer or that they have a picture autographed by some artist etc.. I wonder - That is our life's Biggest Achievement? Maybe I dont have such a great life after all. eh?
In the end it all boils down to money and how much a Star will generate...sad but true. All you said I also agree with Rashmi....I have not time for this kind of rubbish reading that you speak about.
you know what? I am so with you on this, who the hell cares...
I just got on here and literally there are times that I do love history but life is something more and what we write well Rashmi I have said this before but I literally love to read and write what I think about. I love history but I truly love more of the areas of life and I am nor have ever been media driven as I think that I find more good news within the writes here than actually from the news itself.
Reality shows and all the things that happen within the news are most often sensationalized.
Our lives are what they are and what is and goes on in our own days is much of a more than what I find to be on the television.
No i don't need it ! The cops should should know so they can file a report for the insurance.
LOL! The subject of Tiger Woods came up at D's office party this weekend. Who cares! I don't even know who most of the people in Hello magazine are, but I have a freind who reads every single issue. I met someone at the office party who watches reality tv 24/7, she even has the tv on in every room so she doesn't miss a word. I was intrigued! Made me wonder if her intent for this life was Life by Proxy
I thought one of the funniest things was when the entire world was poised on the edge of their seats to see what a stain on a womans dress was
LOL...yeah we needed forensics to tell us what it was :P
lol @ Life by Proxy. is that a movie already, if not, it would make a good subject for a movie!
There is one "The Hudsucker Proxy" but yes, this could make a good subject for a movie or maybe Poem ;)
If he had previous known affairs it would have been just another news. But Since the media didn't have news like this about his private life, they try to dig not just a hole but a "WELL". This morning I was reading an article "What Tiger Woods wife should do?" and giving so many links....what the wives of Clinton and others did under similar circustances!!,.... as if the writer live the life of Tiger wood's life.
Consider all these news are as another excercise given by God to scratch your brain and be rational. You have done your part I guess and became a rational thinker again!!!!!!!!!LOL
you echo my sentiments...i also wonder why people are so interested to know the personal lives....
