Just for some smiles.

Children speak up Honestly.

JACK (age 3)
was watching his Mom breast-feeding his new baby sister... After a while he asked: 'Mom why have you got two? Is one for hot and one for cold milk?'

 MELANIE (age 5)
asked her Granny how old she was.. Granny replied she was so old she didn't remember any more. Melanie said, 'If you don't remember you must look in the back of your panties.  Mine say five to  six.'

  STEVEN (age 3)
hugged and kissed his Mom good night. 'I love you so much that when you die I'm going to bury you outside my bedroom window.'

 BRITTANY (age 4)
had an ear ache and wanted a pain killer. She tried in vain to take the lid off the bottle. Seeing her frustration, her Mom explained it was a child-proof cap and she'd have to open it for her. Eyes wide with wonder, the little girl asked: 'How does it know it's me?'

 SUSAN (age 4)
was drinking juice when she got the hiccups. 'Please don't give me this juice again,' she said, 'It makes my teeth cough..'

 DJ (age 4)
stepped onto the bathroom scale and asked: 'How much do I cost?'

CLINTON (age 5) was in his bedroom looking worried When his Mom
asked what was troubling him, he replied, 'I don't know what'll happen with this bed when I get married. How will my wife fit in it?'

MARC (age 4) was engrossed in a young couple that were hugging and kissing in a restaurant. Without taking his eyes off them, he asked his dad: 'Why is he whispering in her mouth?'

TAMMY(age 4) was with her mother when they met an elderly, rather wrinkled woman her Mom knew. Tammy  looked at her for a while and then asked, 'Why doesn't your skin fit your
 face?'

JAMES (age 4)was listening to a Bible story. His dad read: 'The man named Lot was warned to take his wife and flee out of the city but his wife looked back and was turned to salt.'
Concerned, James asked: 'What happened to the flea?'

I think this Mom will never forget this particular Sunday sermon...

'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust...' He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

The different Accents - Indian Style

This comes close to explaining the different accents, styles of talking and tones of voice people from different parts of India use.  I thought it was hilarious.

Have a wonderful Laugh

The Disease of CAD

My husband has an affliction that I have heard most Men suffer from – CAD –  (Cant Ask for Directions).  Most woman married friends of mine at some time or other does have a hair pulling, rolling the eyes episode when they talk about going to a new place. For the most part its fine with me, cause I am the Live and Let live (with the eccentricities) kind of person.  I don’t like to take on a Battle unless it’s a matter of Life and Death.  Most Battles in a marriage aren’t worth getting the boxing gloves out or the adrenaline rush and grey hair over(yep, I figured that in the 2nd year of my marriage, intelligent arent I?)

I am not a patient person(see I can admit to my flaws), especially when I know that the other has the potential to be better than what they are.  Usually I say nothing cause mostly I know it doesn’t help to say what I think when I am annoyed.  It removes the effectiveness of Truth as I see it.  The control I have over my tongue is put to rigorous test when we travel.   Mostly MBH (My Better Half- guess I am a tad possessive, see the MY there, yep hes mine warts and all) drives, I enjoy the view as a passenger and click anything that looks good to my eye.  MBH  has this amazing Optimism about him,(which was one of the reasons I was attracted to him), that puts my Realism(which he calls pessimism) to shame, at times.  He doesn’t ever take driving directions (at least he doesn’t, going on a vacation) and he wont stop to ask for directions. When it was just the TWO of us, I didn’t mind the detours, for it was an adventure.   But now with two kids of 6 and 8 years old, I prefer knowing exactly how, when and where we are going, halting for the night etc., for I do like OUR vacation devoid of any stress, at least not more stress than the ones that are inevitable.

The last time we "detoured" our way, we were on the way to St. Helens.  This time I thought I had everything just the way I wanted. Since I didnt want us to get lost, I got online, got the directions and printed it out.  The previous evening he tells me that hes got the map and so we should make it there without a hitch.   I mentioned that he should take the printout for the "Just in Case".  That was wasted breath anyway, cause he didnt take it.

So all of us got ready on time and we left home early(which in itself was a wonder of wonders) Half way through the journey, I tell him that the town doesnt look familiar. We made this trip some 9 years ago, before we had kids so I had this vague feeling we were going the wrong way.  After a while we stopped at a Subway for lunch and I ask the lady if this is the way to get to St. Helens and she says "oh! you are about 20 miles off course". I smile very sweetly while getting ready mentally to wring MBH's neck, if I could fit it between my two palms.   So now he knew we were "lost" and without any signs of regret on his face, he smiles his sweetest smile that puts the dimples on his cheek.  Then he pulls out his favorite dialogue that he saves for moments like this,  “Kisi ko appointment thee hai kya?  Fikar math karo, Soong, soong ke pahoonch ja-oonga” (Have you an appointment with someone there?  Don’t worry, I will follow the scent and reach the place).  Isnt he the sweetest Husband anyone could have?  He doesn’t want me to worry (giggling).  Its also that time when I wonder if my Husband has a Bloodhound gene and look for a tail and tongue hanging out with drool on it, finding none,  I sigh.  If I say anything at that point, it will be something I cant take back once its out.

Recently just to avoid getting annoyed again, we got a GPS and now I have a new Item added to the list of things to remember to take, when we go on a drive/vacation.  Ah! Life is as it should be I guess.

One of those Days

A Housewife's life is a series of never-ending chores.  I enjoy some and others I do them cause it has to be done.  I enjoy chores like cleaning, shining or polishing something or putting order to closets that become the catch all,  folding symmetrical clothes. It gives me that extra Oomph! to see the RESULTS - shining  and perfect little squares or rectangles sitting on the closet shelf and it stays that way for at least a week or two, after which, I feel it is a reasonable lapse of time to do it again.  Most other jobs never seem like they are done. The sink gets empty only to get full, floors get mopped only to be mopped again, counters get cleaned only to get cluttered, the laundry basket gets empty only to get full, the clothes get Ironed and folded/hung only to be taken out and wrinkled, I eat only to feel hungry again in a four hours, Food gets cooked and then I have to cook again.  Even the words I used to converse is redundant - "Drive carefully" "Please shut the door gently" "Please lower the TV volume" "Put your shoes in its place" "Put away those toys"  "Put your desk in order"  "Put the clothes IN the laundry basket".  It might seem unreasonable or unpractical, sometimes Trivial, as-this is life- people would say, but I look at the redundancy of the jobs I do and think I am no different than a Factory Machine-  Do- repeat process - repeat process -  repeat process.

In a month or two the Machine Breaks down or goes on strike- that's when people in my home cant find their socks, cant find a clean glass, find their part of the closet empty, have an upset stomach from eating all meals outside the house. That's also when everyone in my home become the Buddha, and Enlightenment occurs - "Oh!! there was someone doing all these things in the background."  Then we have mini and macro Buddha's running around the house, there is so much help doing the chores that I feel like an undeserving, ungrateful, unloving Queen.

We had that kind of day over the weekend.  I was vacationing from the vacation ... I got myself a Huge pile of books and decided "I am going to trade one redundancy for another which I enjoy - read every-time there's a chore to do". We had the Enlightenment Conference and  sparks flew everywhere like mini-fireworks,  every chore was done without me having to repeat them.  YAY!!

Now, its time to get back to my Housewifely Life filled with redundancy, that I actually seem to Love(shh!! don't tell them that, I love those conferences) yet have to Complain about every now and then.

Peace Always
Rashmi.

The Update

Hello dear friends,

Hope you guys have been well.  Will be dropping in on you soon, now that I am back. We made a trip to Disney-world, Anaheim, California.

The kids had bouts of fun interspersed with bouts of crankiness due to the heat and the Long Lines for most any ride.  I felt my age and wished "oh if only I was a Kid" feeling and then  felt guilty for feeling envious of kids.  All in all it was Fun, tiring fun.   The heat was tolerable but the walking around to activities and standing in long queues to get our turn was tiring.  Every night I slept like a log, totally dead to the world into a dreamless sleep.

The highlight of the visit- the roller coaster- california screaming, the rafting- in a round raft and hurtling down a steep waterfall,  The bobsled through a cave, the space mountain, which is a roller coaster ride in the darkness hurtling through what feels like Space.  Meeting the Cartoon Characters, errr costumed characters was something the kids enjoyed the most.  The rides would not have the attraction or "thrill" effect if it wasnt for the screaming people and the Special effect music and voices.   It would feel like watching a horror movie with the Mute ON.

There were many first times for the kids.  First time- on a ship, on a raft, on a roller-coaster, on their own in the airplane's toilet, staying in a Hotel(we used to make day trips for the most part), on the Monorail, watching 3 D movies and a Musical. There was a fireworks show every night.  Although it was WOW!! it felt like such indulgence.

The Most "Happy Event" of the trip for me was meeting a Friend of mine, face to face after 7 years...We met only for about 2 hours yet there was so much catching up to do.  Lordy!! how much we have changed in appearance and attitudes. It was nice to see how we viewed each other and how we are now.  We are no more the typical skinny, impulsive, razor tongued, devil may care attitude- teenagers we were once.. Life does take its toll. *sigh* I missed my youth for a little while.

What did I think of the trip.. Hmmm..1. Total Admiration for the founder who literally started from nothing, he had a vision that he Implemented with much finesse. 2. Missed being on the puter 3. Nice way to make money 4. Missed being able to cook for myself. 5. Nice way to entertain people. 6. Missed talking to the few people I talk over the net. 7. A good place for a change of scene from the usual monotonous everyday grind.  But did I think it was the "Happiest Place on earth"... thats an Emphatic NO!!! Its definitely the Noisiest place, maybe a little less than a factory where lathe machines run but it is NOISY.  Glad we didn't make this trip 4 years earlier, it would have been a waste of money to have gone there with kids in a stroller.. its good for kids between the ages of 6 to 20, the kind that understand the different disney cartoon characters and the fun rides.

That's the Update folks.

Resting from the Vacation, the weirdly tired

Tuesday Morning.

Most days, my attempt at getting the kids on time to the bus-stop is usually foiled by last minute Toilet visits(usually by my son).  The usual routine, apart from the things I usually do early in the  morning,  is to get kids ready, make breakfast, make sure they have some of it, pack lunch for my daughter and then get them to the bus-stop.. Today, we were early, the first ones at the bus-stop(a rare occurance). When I got out, I saw a light dusting of snow and thought "hmm...Thats too light for a school closure" so didnt bother to call the school. I get to the bus-stop and we wait for over 15 mins when it suddenly occurs to me, there could be a delayed opening.  Yes, as I suspected, morning KG(kindergarten) dont have school and the rest have a 2 hour delay, opening school today. I thought "so much for being early".

This is Tuesday Jan 15, 2008. Reporting for -Thats my Life on Automation, Rashmi.
