Happy Valentines - A Few Love Poems.

Here's wishing you all a very Happy Valentines. May your Love for each other and yourselves Grow. Enjoy these poems...

Kahlil Gibran on Love

When love beckons to you, follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.

For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.
Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,
So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.

Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.
He threshes you to make you naked.
He sifts you to free you from your husks.
He grinds you to whiteness.
He kneads you until you are pliant;
And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God's sacred feast.

All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life's heart.

But if in your fear you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure,
Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love's threshing-floor,
Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.
Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.
Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;
For love is sufficient unto love.

When you love you should not say, "God is in my heart," but rather, "I am in the heart of God."
And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.

Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

Do You Love Me? – Jalaluddin Rumi

A lover asked his beloved,
Do you love yourself more
than you love me?

The beloved replied,
I have died to myself
and I live for you.

I’ve disappeared from myself
and my attributes.
I am present only for you.

I have forgotten all my learning,
but from knowing you
I have become a scholar.

I have lost all my strength,
but from your power
I am able.

If I love myself
I love you.
If I love you
I love myself.

 1 Corinthians chapter 13 (BIBLE)

1. I may be able to speak the languages of human beings and even of angels, but if I have no love, my speech is no more than a noisy gong or a clanging bell.

2. I may have the gift of inspired preaching; I may have all knowledge and understand all secrets; I may have all the faith needed to move mountains-but if I have no love, I am nothing.

3. I may give away everything I have, and even give up my body to be burned-but if I have no love, this does me no good.

4. Love is patient and kind;
it is not jealous or conceited or proud;

5.love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable;
love does not keep a record of wrongs;

6. love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth.

7. Love never gives up; and its faith, hope, and patience never fail.

8. Love is eternal.

How Do I love Thee? – Elizabeth Barret Browning

How do I love thee?

Let me count the ways.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height

My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight

For the ends of Being and ideal Grace

I love thee to the level of everydays

Most quiet need by sun and candlelight.

I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;

I love thee purely as they turn from Praise.

I love thee with the passion put to use

In my old griefs, and with my childhood’s faith.

I love thee with a love I seemed to lose

With my lost saints – I love thee with the Breath,

Smiles, tears,of all my life! – and if God choose,

I shall but love thee better after death.

A Poem without  a Name or the Author, I read this at school when I didn’t know what Anon meant (giggling)

Love me not for comely grace

For my pleasing eye or face,

Nor for any outward part,

No nor for my constant heart-

For those may fail or turn to ill

So though and I shall sever:

Keep therefore a true woman’s eye,

And love me still, but know not why-

So hast thou the same reason still

To dote upon me ever!

I love this one for its simplicity. This is from "A cup of Sun" by Joan Walsh Auglund.

I did not hear

   the words you said,

Instead,

   I heard the love.

Hope you enjoyed the Poetry.  Have a wonderful week.

Peace always

Mithuna.

Gibran is a Pleasure for me to read, but can relate most to the Corinthian - with my own Life's Philosophy, and Rumi is so uniquely simple and powerful - Thank You my Friend - Namaste and a Happy Valentine to you!!

I loved them all, but the Joan Walsh Auglund touched me so much...when my Paul and I talk, it may be about seemingly nothing special, but I can hear the love in his voice when he speaks to me, and I cherish that so much. I love poetry. Once a year, I get in the mood just to read poetry, so I will go to the library and pick up some favorite poets, and just indulge and lose myself in the words. Reading poetry is my way of touching beauty, pain, and truth. I love it.

Happy Valentines Day:)
