Creative Challenge # 45 - Oh, how I miss it!

Childhood

Memories lay entombed
In the hearth at Gran's home
Warm on Misty morns
Feeding slivers to the fire thorns
Watching the embers as flatbreads bake
Uncovering eggs buried in hot ash
Time passed without a care
Nothing made me pull my hair.

Games only children played
Imaginary monsters slayed
Gooseberry, on laden branch
Sweet water in mouths parched
Ripe Tamarind peep from pods
Calling out to mini lords
Savoring tastes, now rare to find.

Cousins and friends
Fashions and Trends
An abundance of time
Energy, never did subside
Doing things we enjoy
Going with the flow and joy
There were no Greys.

Being a child,
Oh how I miss it!

Childhood... There were no greys....What a lovely childhood you had... Do you know how lucky you were?

I enjoyed going back to your childhood with you here too.
Some parts of mine were enjoyable enough for a return journey. Others not so.

I love your reminiscence, the first few lines already captivated me, and I see Coorg, it tantalises me to make it there one day, does it still retain its old wordliness and innocence? I do have the special memory of tasting tamarind straight from the tree, and what an impression it made on me. Can never even buy tamarind at all here in the French outback.

I don't really miss it but it's a nice poem. :)

In some places, yes, but most have now got more "civilized" with electricity etc. But compared to what the First World has, yes its old world and there is still the innocence if you look for it... Most of all I liked being able to look at the stars and see fireflies and the days that dont depend on Time for everything, cause visits to my gran's place used to happen during summer vacation.

We get tamarind here but it doesnt taste the same as the tamarind that is just plucked from the tree.

There are parts of my childhood that I am glad is over but the time I spent in the village with my grandparents is something I really cherish. I like to weigh it in gold and the rest in dried leaves so that the good always outweighs the bad.

It's so nice to have wonderful, vivid, memories of our childhoods. The older we become, the more we treasure those memories. I enjoyed your poem. Thank you for sharing some of your memories.

I've been absent for a while. One of the things I've missed most is your poetry LOL. You see things and can describe them so we see them too through your words. That is a TALENT not many have. This is beautifully written!
