I heard the cicada last year, now gecko is a rare sight in the US but I saw quite a few during my last visit home...they still give me the Ick and goosebumps.
The only thing that used to get squashed was cockroaches, flies and mosquitoes. I think they are truly immortal in our world. They dont seem to have a concept of extinction.
I love how Haiku can take something so small and seemingly mundane and turn it into something fascinating... but then you can do that with anything, Rashmi... For someone who had to learn the ins and outs of English , your mastery is amazing. Like music in words....

I haven't seen a firefly for decades.
The last I saw them was 5 years ago at my grandparents village.
Nor have I heard a cicada, or seen a gecko scuttle along a ceiling for donkeys ears.

I hate it when they lose their tails which lie there wriggling around for half an hour.
That used to be the favorite sport among my cousins and sibling.. pull the tail off and put it where I cant avoid the sight.
I used to squash ants as they climbed up the wall. Not nice at all.

Beautiful picture evoked.
Are fireflies the same as lighting bugs ? We call them lighting bugs here, they are pretty at night only see them certain times of the year ,
Yeah, lightening bugs! As a kid I used to take the light off and squish it around my finger for a glittery ring...! Gross, I was mean!
Yes the same..
Thanks, i thought they were but wasn't sure.
