Creative Challenge #192 - Poem

When I stand before you

Alone in our alone-ness

I suffer a sensory overload

Your eyes drown my thoughts

Your voice entices my being

Your lips make me yearn

Your hands make me yield

What I hold dear

My sanity, becomes insane

In that moment,

who I am, is forgotten

My mind's map becomes invisible

My voice is lost in silence

A part of me is torn

Between wanting to be Me

And melding with you, in one-ness .

Holding on to the tiny sliver of sanity

I turn my back and walk away.

When the distance blurs you

From my sight,

I sit down and pour what I feel,

On to parchments, of verse, prose or imaginings.

It reminds me a bit of Rumi, it has that Sufi, ecstatic feel to it. I especially like the "my sanity becomes insane"

Ah! you read Rumi too. I was aiming for the Mirabai feel though, unlike her, I love my illusory sanity more :).

thanks for dropping by!

Doesn't everybody? lol I'm not familiar with Mirabai, however. I will have to look her up.

I think here, in the US, it is required reading. Most other places it is a matter of interest. Mirabai was Hindu Mystic from India who wrote beautiful "devotional" poetry, mostly addressed to Lord Krishna, an incarnation of Vishnu, the Hindu God of Preservation.

Glad you enjoyed it Callie. :)

Rumi has a very strong contemporary advocate in English in Coleman Barks, and you must admit, Rumi the man was a very strong personality. From what little I know about him, he impresses me with his practicality on the one hand, and his mysticism on the other, and I am not a mystic by inclination. Not that I want to take away anything from Mirabai or any other such poet. I have found a few of her poems online now. Thanks for the stimulus to seek her out.

You are such a romantic, Rashmi... What many women set aside, and rarely if ever bring their young girl and her fantasies to life, you do with such deep and stirring emotion. Another gem .. Thank you ..:-)

This is so beautiful that I read it twice....
Last year, in May, I was in the Turkish city of Konya, where Rumi lived most of his life and he was buried. His shrine is beautiful place of pilgrimage. Should you like to see my blog on this pls click http://belita747.multiply.com/tag/turkeykonya
