Opinions of an Unsophisticated housewife.

1. Watched the Presidential Debate

My impressions-
Mccain isnt a listener, didnt have respect for Obama,  thinks he has a lot of  "administrative/leadership" experience hence feels anything goes,  doesnt think diplomacy is a necessity with leaders they dont like/enemies,  doesnt think very much about the allies, has a vibe of arrogance around him.

Obama is a listener, had more respect for Mccain, knows he lacks "leadership" experience compared to his rival, is for diplomacy with "enemies", thinks there should be concensus with allies before action, pronounced the names of the countries they have been at war with Correctly.. He actually said  EEraan instead of I ran and EEraq instead of I rack and Paakistan instead of Pack is tan, has a vibe of humility around him and is young therefore less in danger of dying in office.

And my conclusion-  Neither has a clue what to do about the Economy or has a plan for the withdrawal of troops from the war zones, or a plan for how to manage the environment and neither had the aura of "Leader" about them so "God save US".

What did I think about them as presented by the TV-
Obama would do well, if he surrounded himself with really solid charactered, solidly educated,  solidly diplomatic people around him, cause he does listen.
Mccain would do well, if he learned to LISTEN(seems moronic to hope to teach an old dog a new trick but I do hope), just listen, others have intelligences of different kind, just listen.

2. Watched the VP debate

My impressions-
Biden  is a precise speaker, sticks with the  point,  knows the value of time, likes to talk clearly with making of points,   Knows how to keep the issue of church and state separate(his answer to the question about same sex couples),  has less of a "Flauting my Medals" syndrome,  more concerned about education as a whole, not just at elementary levels but at higher levels/vocational education, more for a gradual phasing out of the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan.  I liked the fact that he said that he would measure the progress in the economy depending on how many families are able to pay their mortages and debts off.

Palin  has a nice face, but is a  flit from one topic to another without really answering the question kind of speaker an opposite of Biden,  "I will talk about what I want to talk about, even if I dont answer your questions" kind of speaker, which gave me the feeling like she didnt know much, she goes well with Mccain since they are alike- basically someone who doesnt LISTEN. More about "when I was (mayor/executive) I did (put the thing she did) but you didnt".  More for elementary level education but has nothing to say about the affordibility of higher education.  Sort of Balked when the question was about same sex couple and then agreed with Biden's point of view.  Loved the words "Maverick" to associate with Mccain and liked the word "fight" for everything she thought needed change.

All in all, Americans will have a tough time no matter who comes to power but that is a cliche'd opinion... I dont have a good opinion when it comes to Politicians. They really have to prove themselves to me before I am impressed.

indeed a tough time, but i will never vote for obama,,,,,I like biden and i love palin even if she does push her small town take a little too much, and I believe that she came very well prepared and handled herself beautifully and Yes she is a woman and i do believe that she believes in what she is saying and i think biden doesnt like obama.......he would rather be president

I agree she came well prepared but I still think she doesnt know much, I wouldnt vote for her just because she's a woman and her beliefs(the librarian firing, her religiousity) border on extreme for me. I dont know much about any of the candidates..politics puts weird combos into bed, so yes, Biden could wish to be president and for all we know Palin could too. When it comes to Politics, the concepts of principle and conviction rarely make the cut.

You're welcome. Of course I wouldnt send this for a newspaper(giggling) but its the first take on what I saw and heard them say.

I did political analysis before (for money).
I can say only one thing: if I'd have to open my own business in that field, I would hire YOU.
Your observations are correct and more reasonable than anything I read in the blogosphere about politics, so far now.

LOL Simona, Thank you... I would take you up on your offer ;).

I would trust your humble and honest opinion any day ... you would not say what you would not back up ... and your clarity is absolutely because you are a housewife..an informed one... which, sad to say, is not the norm.

I was looking for women candidates amongst the republican who could do the work and I think Olympia Snowe would work well, she is young, she does have an approachable face, a moderate, feels more sensible, more willing to walk half-way, look at issues from different points, has experience working in different departments and most important, willing to Listen. If a Leader doesnt Listen to what the people want, then he will fail at Leading.

I think McCain absolutely devastated Obama hands down in the Pres debates.

In the VP debate:
In my opinion, they both did good.
But Palin won over all.

I was a bit concerned about Gov. Palin's comment that she wanted the VP office to have more power and saying she agreed with Cheney's view on this. That was a bit disturbing. I'm sure that will be discussed in the days ahead.

Biden's frequent attempts to tie McCain with Bush backfired in my opinion as Gov. Palin pointed out that Obama/Biden were supposed to be about the future but Biden kept talking about the past (ie Bush).

Both Joe Biden and Sarah Palin said they support civil rights for everyone but they both also said they oppose equal marraige rights for gays and lesbians (funny that neither seems to understand the hypocrisy of this possition). Biden specifically pointed out that Barrack Husein Obama also denies equal rights for gays and lesbians. Wasn't a surprise, but it is disapointing nonetheless to hear that the next president and vice president of the United States does not support equal rights for all Americans.

Gov. Palin did add that she does believe same gender couples should be allowed to vist each other in hospital etc (which shows she understands that such areas are where the denial of equal rights for gays and lesbians are particularly troubling). Biden did not says he agrees with her on this thus implying that Palin is at least closer to supporting LGBT rights than Biden and Barack Husein Obama.

Overall, the pressure was on Gov. Palin and she took the heat well and showed that she is ready for this position.

When its McCain and Obama, Obama is the unknown. Like him or not, we know McCain.
The more we get to know Barrack Husein Obama the more dangerous he appears!

When its Biden and Palin, Palin is the unknown. Like him or not, we know Biden.
The more we get to know Sarah Palin the more I like her.

Head to head I think they tied but with the added pressure on Gov. Palin, I think she was the winner.

Kudos to Sarah Palin!

I think its mostly because I dont have much at stake, since I cant vote. I would get more emotional if this was a campaign in India and lose my objectivity.

She answered the question after Biden had said the same thing and in fact just agreed with him after she made a Pointed remark about being "Tolerant" not "Accepting" of what couples think is right for them.

"Biden's frequent attempts to tie McCain with Bush backfired in my opinion as Gov. Palin pointed out that Obama/Biden were supposed to be about the future but Biden kept talking about the past (ie Bush)."
I think he did that only when he called on the fact that Palin didnt say anything different than what is already being done by the present government.

Hi,
You: She answered the question after Biden had said the same thing and in fact just agreed with him after she made a Pointed remark about being "Tolerant" not "Accepting" of what couples think is right for them.

JoA: I stand corrected on this. I'm watching the rebroadcast on CSPAN right now. I must have missed the first part of Biden's comment. You are correct. None of the four support the Constitutional right of marriage for same gender couples, both say they support civil rights (like hospital visitation etc) of same gender couples... although how that can exist when they are denied the right to marriage is beyond me.

You: "Biden's frequent attempts to tie McCain with Bush backfired in my opinion as Gov. Palin pointed out that Obama/Biden were supposed to be about the future but Biden kept talking about the past (ie Bush)."
I think he did that only when he called on the fact that Palin didnt say anything different than what is already being done by the present government.

JoA: He referred to Bush attempting to tie in McCain indirectly several times. I think she mentioned it twice, maybe three times, I wasn't counting.

As I say though, I was actually impressed by both of them. I still think Palin won mainly because is the "unknown" and had the most to prove.

Thanks
