I saw this posted on one of my Blogmate's page. While I knew that it is easier to come to the US if you have a Master's degree and employed here, I didnt have a clue about how difficult it is for someone with no education or skill to get here. This gave me an understanding about why there is illegal immigration across the border from Mexico or other nations where making a living is not guaranteed.

Another symptom of the US policy of discrimination, separation and lack of opportunity that has permeated our governmental regulatory system. This is not the land of the free... this is the land where opportunity depends on your ability to augment a government that increasingly sees human beings as property and potential tax dollars. The system is in its death throes of so-called democracy. Opportunity? No ... Personal liability, and insurance of secured outcome in favor of taxation are foremost ... Illegal aliens don't know what they are getting into... The bling of streets paved with gold are but a dream.. a false reality...You can't build a country on stacked cards..This government is falling apart.... it just hasen't grasped that yet.
Theres so many sides to this issue. I havent yet wrapped my head around all of it. I understand that nations need money in their coffers to run the nation...I definitely wouldnt want squatters who dont want to work for their living when they can and live off assistance, cause that is being unfair to those who have come here and worked hard to fill the coffers. I wonder how and when will it be convenient to be Humane. Under what conditions of money and socio-political circumstances would it be alright for us to be Humane.
I have gotten in many a heated discussion about immigration...my grandparents were immigrants, my second husband was an immigrant. I love my country...all countries have their issues, and as my parents told me growing up "life is not fair", so I will just change the subject and say those women who hit on my husband at the immigration office used to really piss me off...lol
Seemingly this all took place Rashmi right after September 11th, not saying that it did not exist before but the same now even applies here in Canada.
Very interesting read...
We are all in a sense one great family of humanity, and qualities come in many shapes and sizes, some obvious and some so subtle they are not at first obvious. Someone poor and unambitious may not be a financial provider of your nation but may be of value in other ways, even if only to inspire tolerance and understanding in others, which is an important human quality to have in any society, maybe to show how there can be smiles and happiness even in difficult circumstances - we can't all fit into simple boxes, for the capacity of humanity is so vast and colourful, its a great symphony in which each plays a part. The children and the grandchildren of what may seem hopelessly lost homes are also to be considered, one may end up being a provoker of thoughts, another a loved entertainer, even a president could be there. Similarly, the children of the well to do and ambitious could rebel and become saboteurs. Anything is possible.
I am trying hard not to buy into that, inspite of my parents telling me the same thing. I feel like that will become our self-fulfilling prophecy so I keep telling myself "Life is fair only I cant see it right now". LOL at the women who hit on your husband... seriously, what were they thinking going after a married man, thats a lot of unnecessary trouble.
@ Susan, I agree with what you said. That is why I have this question about how long and what circumstances will make it feasible for us to be Humane about the issue.
This is a very good point, Rashmi.... I am coming to a place where I truly believe we, as human beings, are beginning to open our eyes to the shams of a "regulatory, increasingly militarized Government" ... We as human beings can and will be the causal component of change... It is our responsibility to awaken our spirits , bring a purposeful, meaningful approach to our world in the sense that humanity deserves better representation. We, as human beings, must believe we deserve better. It will happen.. I truly believe this. Count me in as one of the components of change... for I refuse to buy into any belief system supporting that we are victims and helpless in any situation that robs humanity of basic rights on this planet. This country needs an enema.
That last sentence had me chuckling Jackie... I said something similar when my friend and I were talking of politicians in India. I said, that their swiss accounts needs an enema so that the rest of India can prosper *giggling*
LOL...Oh that the ever present supposed Powers That Be would have a sense of humor.
My son said last night that the Peoples of India have a priceless sense of humor. ( To me this is Godlike and the saving grace that creates the glue that binds. And sometimes that is all it takes to make change happen. Blessed be that Godlike quality...and its effervescent powers of persuasion.
I agree there needs to be a humane solution to the illegal immigrant situation. I also agree it is difficult to come here legally. Nonetheless, what kind of message does it send to those who came here legally when those who came illegally are simply allowed to stay with no consequences. I support immigration and the idea of a "melting pot". I do not believe we can simply ship illegal immigrants back to their country of origin, for they are not cattle-- they are people. I do not have the answers, but in whatever "solution" this government decides upon, the human element needs to be considered first and foremost.
