Love, as I see it.

I read carol's blog(One of my blogmates on yahoo 360) about love. Its a subject I usually avoid writing about, for a couple of reasons. I believe that what you hold sacred you dont talk about. Secondly, from experience, I notice that the more you talk about an emotion, the less you feel it and emotions are for feeling. Today, I am going to make the exception. This is probably the only entry you will ever see me make about LOVE. I do think I am very lucky when it comes to Love. I am constantly experiencing its different forms and I am always in awe... I am weird you see, I tend to see love in the most mundane things.

I know people have different words for the things I see as love, they will say- oh its courtesy, or just being considerate or being thoughtful, or just being a friend. I look at what brought that up.. what makes this person genuinely courteous, nice, considerate, thoughtful, being a friend? Without having Love within, you cant give it out. We all have it, but only some of us are aware of it, most of us will deny it. That is my belief.

I see love when the first rains fall on dry parched ground. Rain is giving, the ground receiving love. Ground gives through that smell of dust rising and the growth of plants soon after. The cycle carries on, with each becoming a visible or invisible part of the other, thats love, an energy thats passed on. When thunder roars in laughter, as the Lightening takes a photograph, thats love. I look at the dung bettle roll the dung at least twice its size and take it home, I see love. At the compost pit I see the darkening of the soil and I see love. I see the sunflower face the sun, I see love. I watch the kids next door put up a puppet show for their mom's birthday, I see love. I've watched the eagle collect the twigs and make its eyrie, every year at the same place and I see love. I watch the beautiful colours of sunrise, at dawn almost kissing the earth, I see love. I watch my friend go with her mom to the temple though she is an atheist and I see love.

When the lemon seed sprouts; when I stand beneath a waterfall feeling the spray; when my kids say "Mommy, why arent you having lunch?"; When my husband says "Let me do that for you"; When my mother asks "Are you alright?"; When my cousins say "I wish you were here"; When friends say "I am here". When a stranger offers to hold the bag; When strangers over the cyberspace become kindred spirits, I see love.

When a car stopped to check if we were alright when our car stalled and called a tow truck for us; When spouses stay loyal inspite of temptations; When we change willing for someone without being asked to; When we do something for the other without any thought of being reciprocated, simply because we can do it; When we lend a kerchief to someone crying; When I see the weaver touch the sheet he just wove; when I see the wo/man spread out a meal to nourish the family; When I see wo/men working hard so that their families are fed; When I see the eyes smile at the mere mention of someones name; When my heart longs to console, when my palms seek the warmth, when we wait for news of that someone day after day hoping they are well, when I see people refuse to give up or give in so they could be the rock for the other, I know I am lucky to have seen ways in which love manifests. In all these things and things I cant go into lengths to mention, I see love.

I feel the Universe has umpteen ways to tell us everyday that we have love, we just need to listen. We are surrounded by love, we have to choose to dip into it. Theres always giving and recieving involved where there is love, but mostly its giving. Theres work without working at it. Theres compassion and understanding without much being said. Theres honesty without hurting, there's trust that is never broken, theres respect without asking, theres affection thats never withheld, theres holding without suffocating, there's warmth without singeing.... thats LOVE..

Dear, this is gorgeous and I think you should post it again. You can even rework it into poem form by playing with line breaks. It is beautiful and meaningful! Thanks for sharing this!!

For someone that doesn't talk about love, you certainly have the right idea what it is.

It is refreshing to read the works of someone who doesn't necessarily believe that true love is only expressed by fur coats and diamond bracelets. Love is so many things and generally involves trust. A child who trusts you to hold his hand while you wade into the surf for the very first time.
Love is also being there when you witness temporary setbacks and encourage the person to just "hang in there."
Last weekend the New Orleans Saints won the Superbowl for the first time in the 50 year history of the franchise. It took a lot of love to wait 50 years for the biggest success story of the year to finally arrive.
On the other hand, it takes a lot of love to tell Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts, "Hey, it's alright. You lost this one, but we still love you and believe that at some point up the road you will win again."
