Hopeful Always

The fields are parched,
Yet we plough and we sow
Wait for the inconsistent monsoon
Hopeful we are,
It will rain
We will have a harvest
We will have filled bellies
And smiles in our souls.

106 candidates appear
One post is all they applied for
One post is all thats available
Yet each attend the interview
Hopeful they are
It will be theirs
I will get this job
I will earn my money
And my soul smiles

Both kidneys dysfunctional
A heart with an angioplasty
Sickness in every cell
Yet she smiles From her deathbed
Hopeful she is
That she will see another day
Another pink sunrise
She will have that first cup of coffee
And her soul smiles.

He is way above her league
He is a prince of intellect
She a lowly peasant
Yet she dresses her best
Hopeful she is
That he will notice her
He will smile at her
She will share her life with him
And her soul smiles.

Their infant in the incubator
Born in the 6th month
Troubled breathing
Two sets of eyes send love
Hopeful they are
That their baby will make it
They smile at each other
Holding hands tightly
And their souls smile.

Hope looks from above
Waves her magic wand
Grants them their wishes
Hope, hopeful of Hope
Knowing full well
When all else fails,
Hope remains.

K P Rashmi, March 2007

This is my entry for Poetry Wednesday May 14th, 2008.

Sans Souci's Poetry Wednesday Tour starts here.

The Background :   The thing I love about Human beings is the capacity to rise above trying circumstances.  No matter where we live in this world, there are traits that are common in us.  One of them is Hope. This was inspired by the accounts I have read of people making it through the most difficult phases of their lives.  I felt, while the writings talked about the now famous people, there are everyday people around us, quietly going about their lives, walking in hope, walking in strength but arent ever noticed.  They arent photogenic, arent charismatic, arent the kind that attract attention yet, they exude strength.  I wrote this as a tribute to those everyday people,  whose lives are viewed as a mediocre  "I also ran".

Very interesting even for someone who has given up all hope LOL. I like the promise this piece holds though. There may not be any hope that I SEE, but for others hope is what makes them strive for something better.

Thanks for sharing this with us!

LOL No you're just joyful, Minds ;o).

Piccola, I disagree. I have a life and have no hope in Earthly things. For me, I've stopped caring about emotions like love. I would rather do it privately, and alone, than I to risk getting my heart broke again by the hope of someone loving me the way I love them.

So I think you CAN have a life with no hope. At least no hope in the "worldly" things of this world.

Dear Rashmi, I began to realize the poem's gist as I went along. A "Fanfare for the Common Man,"
who procedes with each day, focusing on the basics, the daily joys.

As the saying goes, "Those who have hope, have everything." So true. It's what keeps us going.

Thanks you for your lovely work and for your explanation.
Hugs!

Beautiful.... I have seen hope act as the strongest of weapons in surviving what seems unsurvivable at the moment. A truly lovely and comforting entry you've shared with us this week. A pleasant and inspiring read. Loved this. -janeen
