Creative Challenge 19 : Beyond the Horizon

Refugee

Its a long walk to the border
Little tired legs swing
As she rides the strong shoulder
"Daddy, how much farther?"
"Just beyond that Hill" says the Man.

"How many times is that?" the Man wonders
In this long journey to the no man's land
Fear hides behind these mundane words
"Just a little further",
"Beyond that tree",
"Beyond that river",
"Across that valley",
"Just another day's walk"
"Just... just... just"
Knowing full well,
Just Beyond the Horizon
Is the great Unknown
Yet he walks,
Gathering  hope,
Picking up courage,
Building faith within,
Just so,
His daughter may live,
Without the scars of war.

I like the way this flows and builds to the end...a very poignant and all too real story within your poem
well done!

Thank you... :) for the compliments. Thanks also for hosting this...its something to fall back on everytime I become lazy to write or life takes over and the muse leaves.

oh my, i had goose pimples while reading this....how the war had put so much pain and heartaches to the people of war-torn lands...i do hope the little girl finds the peace and quiet of the new land beyond the horizon.

This is touching and sad, all these children who have to experience war. Beautifully and imaginatively expressed!

Oh this writing of yours here is so beautifully crafted and reminded me of the movie Life is Beautiful.
Well done My Dear Friend..

How so touching, war is a terrible thing and our children suffer most of all.

Deeply touching piece here. How many more fields, how many more hills and roads; a very clear message here that isn't seen in it's most deepest part until the very end. Like a suspense novel you pulled that off here in the most moving way; so much so I needed a few reads to soak in what you have here. Very well done ... this is a moving and very touching read!!

Oh my, how touching, a father's dream, hope of a better life for his daugher...a hope, not real knowlege, which makes the struggle what it is.

Milli, yes, now that you mention it.. and a few others too.. "Schindler's list", and documentaries of the "Lost Boys of Sudan". Stories of Vietnamese escaping the war, the exodus during the India-Pakistan partition, the exodus during the Idi Amin regime, recently during the Rwandan Genocide and so many more..Its scary to think that its been happening for so long in history yet we havent learned any lessons from it.

Yes, most have only hope in their hands and the attitude that "I have nothing to lose"
